Juta

Juta is a high-mountain village in the Sno valley of Kazbegi Municipality, at about 2,200 m above sea level and one of the highest permanently inhabited settlements in Georgia. It sits at the foot of the Chaukhi massif, often called the Georgian Dolomites; the trail to the base camp is roughly 4 km and takes about an hour and a half. From Juta hikers set off for the coloured glacial lakes of Abudelauri and cross the Chaukhi Pass into Khevsureti. The village lies some 24 km from Stepantsminda along the Sno valley road, inside Kazbegi National Park. Only a few families stay through the winter; the walking season runs from June to early October.
