The name
We could not find the naming document, so the reason for the name is not documented. The name matches Mukhrani — according to Georgian Wikipedia, a village in Mtskheta Municipality, Mtskheta-Mtianeti region. The village lies on the Mukhrani plain, on the left bank of the Ksani River, at 550 m above sea level. Its name comes from the word mukha (oak). Mukhrani is one of the old villages of Kartli; after the Mukhrani princedom was founded, it became a place of scholarly and educational activity.
According to OSM, most neighbouring streets are also named after places in Georgia — Tianeti, Tibaani, Chargali, Khornabuji, Nagomari and Ratevani.
The name Mukhrani Street was once used for another street in Tbilisi. According to Georgian Wikipedia, in old Tbilisi, in the quarter of the Mukhranbatoni princes, today’s Nikoloz Baratashvili Street was called Mukhrani Street from 1843 to 1945. The Mukhrani Street in Sanzona is a different street.
Sanzona
According to Georgian Wikipedia, Sanzona is a neighbourhood on the left bank of the Mtkvari, between Nadzaladevi and Temka. The name “San-zona” means “sanitary zone”: before large-scale settlement, two large reservoirs of the city water supply stood here, fed with water from Natakhtari. The settlement appeared in the Ghrmaghele ravine in the 1920s. The reservoirs were closed in the 1950s–60s, and apartment blocks began to be built here in the 1960s.
