Nushi Street (Georgian: ნუშის ქუჩა, “Almond Street”) is a street in the Nadzaladevi district of Tbilisi, in Temqa, in the Avshniani settlement. According to OpenStreetMap (OSM), it is about 860 m long. The street starts in the north-east at Giorgi Avalishvili Street and ends in the west at Avetik Isahakyan Street; just before its last section it is joined by Avshni Street.

Two dead ends branch off the street — Nushi Dead End and Nushi 2nd Dead End. The name is the Georgian word nushi, meaning the almond tree and its nut.

According to OSM, the north-eastern end of the street is at about 41.7774° N, 44.8324° E. From there it runs south-west, then west and north-west, ending at about 41.7787° N, 44.8240° E. The midpoint of the street is at about 41.7771° N, 44.8285° E.

From north-east to west, the street is joined by:

• Giorgi Avalishvili Street (north-eastern end);

• Nushi 2nd Dead End — to the south-east, about 190 m long;

The area is also called the “Avshniani settlement” in official acts: Decision No. 212 of the Tbilisi City Council of 22 July 2016 concerns a lane “in the Nadzaladevi district, in the so-called Avshniani settlement”. By Decision No. 585 of the Tbilisi City Council of 21 November 2023, Avshni Street in the Nadzaladevi district was extended.

Name

Nushi is Georgian for the almond tree and its nut. According to Wikipedia, almond (Amygdalus) is a subgenus of plants in the rose family; two species grow in Georgia — the cultivated common almond and the endemic Georgian almond, found in eastern Georgia.

We could not find the official decision giving the street its name in the Legislative Herald of Georgia (Matsne), so the date of naming is unknown. Tbilisi also has a Nushis Baghebi Street (“Almond Gardens Street”) in the Vake district — a different street.
