Davari Street (Georgian: დავარის ქუჩა) is a street in the Saburtalo district of Tbilisi, in Didi Dighomi in the north-west of the city. According to OpenStreetMap (OSM), it starts at Rostevani Street in the east and runs west in an almost straight line. It is about 1.26 km long.

The street bears the name of Davar, a character from The Knight in the Panther’s Skin (Vepkhistkaosani). It crosses Tinatini, Avtandili and Tarieli Streets, which are also named after characters of the poem.

The name: Davar

In an article of 27 February 2020, Tbilisi Post wrote that naming the unnamed streets of the new Didi Dighomi settlement after characters from The Knight in the Panther’s Skin caused much discussion at the time. The streets it lists include Davari, Rostevani, Tinatini, Avtandili, Tarieli, Nestan-Darejani, Asmati and others. We could not find the official naming decision for Davari Street or its date in public sources.

According to Georgian Wikipedia, Davar in the poem is the sister of Farsadan, King of India. She was married in Kajeti and was the foster mother and teacher of Nestan-Darejan. Nestan-Darejan is Farsadan’s daughter and Tariel’s beloved.

The streets that cross Davari Street also take their names from the poem. According to Wikipedia, Tinatin is Rostevan’s daughter and co-ruler, Avtandil is the commander of the Arabian army, and Tariel is Nestan-Darejan’s beloved.
