The street runs north from Liza Nakashidze-Bolkvadze Street. Two dead ends, Zakaria Mkhargrdzeli 1st and 2nd Dead Ends, branch off it. Varketili metro station is about 250 m away.

According to OSM, the southern end of the street is at Liza Nakashidze-Bolkvadze Street (about 41.6910° N, 44.8686° E). From there it runs north-north-west and ends at about 41.6934° N, 44.8675° E. The midpoint of the street is at about 41.6924° N, 44.8680° E.

Along the way it is joined by the 1st Exit of Aerodromi Settlement 3rd Street and by Zakaria Mkhargrdzeli 1st and 2nd Dead Ends. OSM tags it as a residential street.

Name

OSM's edit history shows this section labelled “Varketili IV microdistrict, 2nd Row” from 2014 and as Zakaria Mkhargrdzeli Street from November 2024. The old label still appears in the OSM address of the nearby Public School No. 176.

We could not find the official naming decision by searching the Legislative Herald of Georgia, so the date of the naming is unknown.

Zakaria Mkhargrdzeli

OSM gives the full name as “Zakaria Mkhargrdzeli”; we did not see a naming act that identifies the person. In the medieval Georgian noble family of the Mkhargrdzeli (Zakarids), several members were called Zakaria (Georgian Wikipedia has separate articles on Zakaria I, II and III Mkhargrdzeli).

The best known of them is Zakaria II Mkhargrdzeli (died 1212). According to Georgian Wikipedia, he was a statesman at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, son of the amirspasalari Sargis, and himself amirspasalari (commander-in-chief) and mandaturtukhutsesi. He took part in the battles of Shamkor and Basiani and in the campaigns to Ani, Ardabil and Iran. After Ani was taken, the city was given to him as a family domain. He was buried at Sanahin, the family monastery.
