Sno — overview

Sno is a village in the Sno valley of Kazbegi Municipality, just off the Georgian Military Road and about 20 km from Stepantsminda. Above it stands Sno fortress — a single tower inside an almost perfectly circular curtain wall, built of river stone and black slate and dated to the 16th-17th centuries, which controlled the routes towards Khevsureti and Pshavi. At the entrance to the village is an open-air sculpture park by Merab Piranishvili, where large boulders are carved into the heads of Georgian writers and public figures. Sno is the gateway to Juta and the Chaukhi massif, with clear views towards Mount Kazbek.
