Kiziqi (old name Kambechovani) is a historical-geographical region in eastern Georgia. It covered the land north of the Mtkvari (Kura) river, in the basins of the lower Iori and Alazani rivers — the territory of the present-day Sighnaghi and Dedoplistskaro municipalities. The region was originally part of Hereti and later became part of the Kingdom of Kakheti. The name “Kiziqi” appears in historical sources from the 15th century. In the 18th century the region’s boundaries were described by Vakhushti Bagrationi.
